Rae Announces Local Recreational Funding

[Stratford, ON] – Today, Matthew Rae, Member of Provincial Parliament for Perth-Wellington, announced that the Ontario government is providing the Three Rivers YMCA Stratford and St. Marys locations with $57,900 in funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Capital grant stream. This funding will help to ensure that the community has safe and ready access to critical programming, activities and spaces.

“It is important that our seniors have the opportunity to remain active during their golden years, and those living with a disability can also maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Matthew Rae, MPP for Perth-Wellington. “This investment by the Ontario Government and the Ontario Trillium Foundation will do just this. This adaptive and accessible fitness equipment at both the Stratford and St. Marys YMCA locations will ensure everyone in our rural communities can remain active.”

The OTF’s Capital grant stream helps to improve the infrastructure that Ontarians need to thrive. Whether it’s purchasing equipment, building a new space, or completing renovations, retrofits or repairs, these grants support projects that are having a positive impact in our rural communities.

“Non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programming that makes a difference – whether it’s helping people train for new careers, learn new things, or simply connect with those around them,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “That’s why capital grant support is so important. This funding will help ensure these spaces remain the heart of communities across our province.”

“We’re grateful for OTF’s support to increase the accessible fitness options for seniors, those living with disabilities and chronic conditions,” said Operational Manager for Stratford and St. Marys YMCA Jay Colquhoun. “This funding will ensure that we can provide more inclusive services to members of our communities, helping them to reach their individual health goals safely.”

Capital grants improve access to programs and technology in community spaces, making it easier for Ontarians to participate in community programs. Funded projects:

  • Improve access to facilities, programs, activities and services
  • Improve existing spaces and support new build projects
  • Make programs and services better and more efficient
  • Make better use of technology.
