Rae Announces $14.2M in Local Infrastructure Funding

[Stratford, ON] – Today, Matthew Rae, Member of Provincial Parliament for Perth-Wellington, announced that the Ontario government is providing over $14.2 million for local infrastructure projects. This funding is being provided through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.

“Our government is making important investments in our rural and small communities to build critical infrastructure such as roads, water and wastewater, and bridges,” said MPP Rae. “We are supporting our municipal partners to help build necessary infrastructure, while reducing the impact on their budgets.”

This funding is part of the government’s $190 billion capital plan to build and expand more homes, highways, hospitals, transit, and high-speed internet across the province.

In 2025, Ontario will allocate $400 million in OCIF funding to help 423 small, rural and northern communities build roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure. Communities may accumulate funding for up to five years to address larger infrastructure projects.

“The cost of infrastructure, both growth infrastructure and upgrades to existing water, sanitary and storm, is challenging for small municipalities,” said Martin Ritsma, Mayor of the City of Stratford. “We are very appreciative of the support provided through MPP Rae’s office and the funds provided from the Ministry of Infrastructure. On behalf of the residents of Stratford, thank you for the ongoing OCIF Funding.”

“Small, rural and northern communities are essential to the growth and prosperity of Ontario,” said Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure. “By providing direct and stable funding to these communities, our government is helping create local jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger, more resilient communities for generations to come.”

OCIF provides funding for local infrastructure projects in municipalities with populations under 100,000, rural and northern municipalities, as well as for Local Services Boards that own water or wastewater systems. Funding allocations are based on a formula that accounts for the different needs and economic conditions of each community.
